Thomas Woodson
Designer, Human Design
This adventure was the first of its kind for me. I moved to Boulder, CO from South Carolina two years ago and just started chasing Joey and Sam in the mountains. I had no idea where it would take me.

  • FAVORITE TRIP MEAL:
  • Dehydrated hash browns
  • SKETCHIEST MOMENT:
  • Severe altitude sickness 3 nights in
  • BEST PIECE OF GEAR:
  • Big Agnes Air Core Mattress (for the 14 hour Lima layover)
  • FUN FACT:
  • I designed and built this website with my company, Human Design Studio.
JOEY SCHUSLER
Marketing / Athlete, Yeti Cycles
I’ve been dreaming of adventures this big my entire life. I love exploring my back yard here in Colorado, but was ready for something new and totally unknown.  When I finally saw the opportunity to pull this expedition off I jumped at it. I was also extremely lucky to find Thomas and Sam as adventure partners as we all complement each others skills and personalities in a very positive way.

  • FAVORITE TRIP MEAL:
  • Cous Cous with lots and lots of cheese. Especially after the long days at altitude in the rain, I’ve never enjoyed a meal as much as that.
  • SKETCHIEST MOMENT:
  • Getting a gun pulled to my face. I couldn’t believe it was happening and have never been so scared in my life.
  • BEST PIECE OF GEAR:
  • Yeti Cycles 575. I still am in awe of how we managed to circumnavigate the Huayhuash range without a single mechanical. So much for all those spare parts we brought.
  • FUN FACT:
  • I will most likely retire to South America some day, just to drink the fresh squeezed juices daily. Im addicted.

Someone once told me, ‘the adventure doesn’t start, until something goes wrong.’ As for our trip to Peru, the adventure started 12 hours after hitting the ground and it didn’t stop until the day we left. Exploring The Huayhuash with Joey and Thomas was incomparable in so many ways. It is by far the wildest, toughest and most exciting adventure I’ve so far had the privilege of enduring, and I can’t wait for the next one!

  • FAVORITE TRIP MEAL:
  • cheesy couscous with salami
  • SKETCHIEST MOMENT:
  • Other than seeing Joey knocked out and covered in blood, it was probably when I helped clear the road of rocks for our bus out of Cajatambo with a roof of loose rock barely holding on above our heads.
  • BEST PIECE OF GEAR:
  • Camelbak Fourteener backpack, I take that thing everywhere
  • FUN FACT:
  • I can now honestly say that I’ve spent the night on a floor covered in cow shit. But at least we were out of the rain.
